DOE and DOI Propose Solar Energy Zones in Six Western States

The US Department of Energy (DOE) and US Department of the Interior (DOI) announced in this December press release a comprehensive environmental analysis that identifies proposed "solar energy zones" on public lands in six Western states. Lands that are in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah that are most suitable for environmentally sound, utility-scale solar energy production are the focus of this study, which, known as the draft Solar Energy Development Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS), available for public comment for a 90-day period that began December 17. The Draft Solar Energy PEIS document is available online at the Solar Energy Development PEIS website.
